Privacy Policy

Your worst moments stay yours.

Last updated: 19 September 2026

The short version

Karen Counselor keeps everything on your device and sends none of it anywhere. There is no account, no server and no tracking. What happened, what you did and how you feel about it stay yours.

1. What you tell the app

Your answers about yourself, every incident you audit, your verdicts and your live mode moments are stored only on your device, inside the app’s private storage and protected by Apple’s on-device encryption. This information is never transmitted to us or to anyone else, because the app has no server to transmit it to. We cannot see it, access it or recover it.

By design, the app never asks for names, places, contact details or free-text descriptions of what happened. It stores only your answers to its own questions and an optional nickname you choose.

2. Information we collect about you

None. We do not collect personal information, usage analytics, device identifiers, advertising identifiers, location or contacts. The app contains no third-party analytics and no advertising software. We do not build a profile of you, and we have no database of users. This is why the app is listed on the App Store as Data Not Collected.

3. No cloud, no sync, no network

Karen Counselor makes no network requests in order to work. It does not sync between your devices, and you can use every part of it in airplane mode. The only time it reaches the network is through Apple’s own systems, when you make or restore a purchase.

If live mode shows a button to call emergency services, tapping it simply opens your phone’s own dialler. The app does not place the call, record it or know that it happened.

Like any app, the data it stores on your device is included in your device’s own backup if you have backups switched on. That backup is between you and Apple, and is encrypted by Apple. We have no access to it.

4. Share cards

When you tap Share on a verdict, the app creates an image showing the kind of incident, your verdict and your scores, and hands it to the standard iOS share sheet. It never includes the place, the people involved or what happened. Where it goes from there is your choice, and it is covered by the privacy terms of whatever app you share it to.

5. Purchases

Karen Counselor is free to download, with one optional in-app purchase that unlocks everything. The transaction is handled entirely by Apple. We never see your name, your payment details or your Apple Account. The app only asks Apple whether the unlock has been bought, and stores nothing else about your purchase. Please see Apple’s own privacy policy for how Apple handles payment information.

6. Deleting your data

You are always in full control:

Because nothing was ever uploaded, deleting it on your device deletes it everywhere. There is no copy on our side to clear, and no request you need to send us.

7. This website

This site sets no cookies and runs no analytics or advertising scripts. Nothing you do here is tracked or profiled. The Camera Test on the home page runs entirely in your browser: your answers are never sent anywhere and disappear when you leave the page.

If you write to us through the contact form on the Support page, the name, email address and message you type are sent to our support inbox by email so that we can reply. We use them for that reply and nothing else. They are never sold, shared or added to a mailing list.

As with every website, our web host keeps standard server logs, which can include your IP address, browser type and the pages requested. These exist for security and reliability, they are kept by the host for a limited period, and we do not use them to identify or track visitors.

8. Children

Karen Counselor is not directed at children under 13 and is not part of the App Store Kids Category. Because the app collects no information from anyone, it collects none from children either.

9. Changes to this policy

If this policy ever changes, we will update this page and revise the date above. Because the core promise of the app is that your answers stay on your device, any future change affecting that promise will be made clear and prominent rather than buried here.

10. Contact

Questions about privacy? Reach us through the contact form on our Support page and we will respond, usually within 48 hours.
