Privacy policy

What you really think stays on your phone.

Last updated 20 September 2026

The short version

  • No account, no sign-in, no cloud, no sync, no analytics, no advertising identifier.
  • Everything you answer is stored on your device and nowhere else.
  • People you add are a nickname and a colour. No surnames, no contact details, no free text about them.
  • Nothing about a person can be exported, shared or copied out of the app.
  • This website sets no cookies and runs no trackers. The contact form is the only thing that sends anything anywhere, and only when you use it.

1. Who this covers

This policy covers the Boss Counselor iPhone app and this website. The app is published by Antonio Barros as an independent developer. If you want to reach a human, use the form on the support page.

2. What the app stores

Everything you enter: your answers to both parts of the opening questionnaire, the people you add, their records, and every audit you run. All of it is written to the app's own storage on your iPhone, protected by iOS Data Protection, and it never leaves the device.

Technically, answers are stored as identifiers of the options you chose, not as sentences. There is no diary, no transcript and no free-text field about another person anywhere in the app.

3. The people you add

A person in Boss Counselor is a nickname or initials, a colour, and the multiple-choice answers you gave about the working relationship. The app deliberately has no field for a surname, a job title, an email address, a phone number or a note.

This is a design decision, not an oversight. The app is a tool for changing what you do, and a tool that held detailed records about named employees would become something else: a file, with all the risks that carries for them and for you.

4. Nothing is exportable

There is no export, share sheet, backup file, print view or copy action for anything attached to a person. You cannot send a flight risk result, an exit post-mortem or a conflict audit out of the app, and neither can anybody who picks up your phone.

If you ever need a record for a formal process, keep dated notes through that process and speak to HR. Nothing in this app is evidence, and it is not built to be.

5. We collect nothing about you

The app has no analytics, no crash reporting with personal data, no advertising identifier, no fingerprinting and no third-party SDK that phones home. There is no server that belongs to this app holding anything about you, because there is no server at all.

If anonymous statistics are ever added, they will be counters only: one number per answer going up, about the boss's own behaviour, never about a named person, opt-in, and described here before they ship.

6. The lock

The app is locked with Face ID, Touch ID or your device passcode by default, and it blurs its contents in the app switcher. Authentication happens entirely on your device through Apple's LocalAuthentication framework: the app never sees your biometric data, and Apple does not share it.

7. Purchases

The optional unlock is an Apple in-app purchase. Apple handles the payment and tells the app one thing: whether this Apple Account has bought it. We never see your name, your payment details or your address. Restoring on a new device asks Apple, not us.

8. Deleting your data

Delete a single audit or a person from their page inside the app. Settings has a Delete everything option that removes your answers, every person and every audit from the device. Deleting the app removes all of it as well.

There is nothing to delete anywhere else, because nothing was ever sent anywhere else.

9. This website

This site sets no cookies, runs no analytics and loads nothing from third parties. The Mirror Test runs entirely in your browser: your answers are never sent to a server and are gone the moment you close the tab.

If you use the contact form, the name, email address and message you type are emailed to the developer so that your question can be answered, and kept only as long as that correspondence needs. Please do not include an employee's name or anything confidential in it. Our web host keeps standard server logs, which include IP addresses, for security and troubleshooting.

10. Children

Boss Counselor is made for adults who manage other adults at work. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect anything from them.

11. Your rights

Where laws such as the GDPR apply, you have rights of access, correction, deletion and portability over personal data a company holds about you. In this app's case the answer is unusually simple: we hold nothing, so there is nothing for us to give you, correct or erase. Your data is in your hands on your own device, and Settings can erase all of it in two taps.

Email sent through the contact form is the one exception, and you can ask for that correspondence to be deleted at any time.

12. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it, and anything that alters what leaves your device will be described here before it ships.

13. Contact

Questions about privacy, or about anything else: the form on the support page reaches a person who reads it.
